About Me
English
My area of study is media history, journalism and mass communication. I am currently a lecturer at the Research Faculty of Media and Communication, and concurrently serve the Graduate School of International Media, Communication, and Tourism Studies, and the Center for Language Learning at Hokkaido University.
I received my Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Information Studies from the Graduate School of Information Sciences at Tohoku University. I also obtained my Master’s degree from the same program and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Television and Radio (currently Broadcasting and Electronic Communication Arts) from San Francisco State University.
My research interests lie in American public broadcasting history, media ethics and law in Japan, Journalism studies focusing on explanatory journalism, media policy, and mass communication. I have published books and peer-reviewed papers in these areas. I have previously taught at Toyo University and Doshisha University.

北海道大学に所属し、現在3つの部局にまたがり活動しています。「メディア・コミュニケーション研究院」、「国際メディア・観光学大学院」、および「言語学習センター」です。専門はメディア史、ジャーナリズムおよびマスコミュニケーションです。
東北大学で博士号（学術）と情報科学の修士号を取得し、サンフランシスコ州立大学でテレビ・ラジオ学の学士号を取得しました。研究の焦点は、アメリカの公共放送史、日本のメディア倫理および法、Explanatory ジャーナリズムを中心としたジャーナリズム研究、メディア政策、マスコミュニケーションです。
書籍や査読付き論文などいくつか出版し、研究助成金の実績もあります。また、東洋大学や同志社大学などでの教育・研究経験もあります。

About / その他人となり・趣味
熊本生まれ、4ヶ月幼少期〜5歳ころまでプエルトリコ（親の大学院留学により）、日本帰国後、両親の仕事の関係で、長崎、静岡、沖縄、宮城・七ヶ浜と仙台を転々と。高校卒業後渡米。５年後学部卒業時リーマンショック経験、帰国後大学院。
ダンスを通して、サンフランシスコ、フィラデルフィア、ニューヨーク、ボストンなどの様々な地域で、フィリピン系、ベトナム系、アフリカ系、メキシコ系やプエルト・リコ系アメリカ人、子供から高齢者、低所得層の人々から専門職階級の人々まで、アメリカ社会に暮らすさまざまな背景を持つ人々と交流（喧嘩も含む）。日本でも同様に色々な背景を持つ人と関わり、一応社会で揉まれて、今に至ります。いずれこの経験を活かして、なんらかの見える形に残したいですし、なんかの形で社会貢献に活かしたい。大事なカミさんはイラン出身。まだカルチャーショック経験し続けてます。疲れるけど、面白い。楽しんで生きていきたい。
