英語学習のかまえHow to approach English in these courses. Read this before the first session.

授業の前に、考え方の部分だけ先に書いておきます。きれいごとは抜きにします。
Before the course begins, I would like to explain how we will approach English learning and what I expect from you.
上手さより回数Regular practice
1回を完璧にやるより、雑でも10回やったほうが伸びます。楽器やスポーツと同じです。
1日10分から15分。これを続けてください。週末にまとめて2時間やるより効きます。効くというのは、体感の話ではなく、記録に出ます。
As with music or sports, repeated practice matters more than making a single attempt perfect. Practice for 10–15 minutes every day instead of doing two hours at the weekend. Your practice records will help you see the difference.
© Koach間違えることについてOn Making Mistakes
間違えた英語は、通じれば成功です。完璧な英語より、通じる英語を優先します。
教室で恥ずかしい思いをするのは、その通りです。ただ、教室は間違えても何も起きない場所です。就職の面接や、留学先の教室では、そうはいきません。
If the other person understands you, you have communicated what you meant. You can make mistakes here and try again. Use that opportunity to practice before you need English in a job interview or while studying abroad.
© Koach英語が嫌いな人へIf You Dislike English
無理に好きにならなくていいです。好きになれと言われて好きになった人を、見たことがありません。
目標はもっと低いところに置きます。必要なときに、読める・書ける・聞ける・話せる。それだけです。「苦痛」が「まあまあ楽しい」まで動けば十分です。
You do not have to like English. The aim is to read, write, listen, and speak when you need to. If you find some enjoyment in learning it, that is enough.
© Koachこの授業でやらないことWhat These Courses Do Not Do
やらないことには、それぞれ理由があります。手を抜いているわけではありません。
1 長い文法説明Long grammar lectures
説明を聞いても、使えるようにはならないからです。文法は知識として覚えるものではなく、使える形で身につけるものです。
日本語の文法用語をひとつも知らない人でも、日本語は話せます。順番が逆なんです。使っているうちに形が見えてくる。説明はそのあとで効きます。
だから、文法をやらないわけではありません。やる場所を変えているだけです。自分で押さえたい人のために 文法の解説 を別に用意しています。AIに掘り下げてもらうためのプロンプトもそこに置いています。
Listening to a grammar explanation does not by itself enable you to use the language. The aim is to learn grammar through use. People can speak their first language without knowing grammatical terminology. Explanations become more useful when you can connect them to language you have already used. Grammar is therefore part of the course, but detailed explanations are provided on a separate page, with prompts for further practice using AI.
2 英文を日本語に訳させることTranslation drills into Japanese
The purpose of these courses is to improve your ability to use English. Translation is a separate professional skill. Translation exercises may be appropriate for students who want to become translators, but translating a passage does not in itself teach you to speak. Machine translation also means that translation alone is an increasingly uncertain basis for a career. In these courses, we practice listening and responding in real time, rephrasing when we are misunderstood, and adjusting what we say to the person we are speaking with.
3 できない人を指名して答えさせることPutting struggling students on the spot
そもそも、そういう場面がありません。この授業は、一人を当てて正解を言わせる形式ではないからです。話すのはペアかグループの中でです。
会話の流れで意見を聞かれることはあります。ただしそれは、できるかどうかを試しているのではなく、単に話に入ってもらうためです。分からなければ分からないと言えばいい。それも会話です。
You will talk in pairs and small groups. I do not call on individual students to give a correct answer in front of everyone. I may ask what you think during a conversation. If you do not know, say so. You can still take part in the conversation.

先生というより、学習コーチだと思ってください。練習メニューを出す人です。走るのは自分です。
Think of me as a coach. I plan the practice and help you with it. You do the practice.
